Tremont Neighborhood Story

Originally settled by Eastern Europeans, Appalachians, Greeks, Polish and African-Americans, Tremont is one of Cleveland’s oldest neighborhoods with architectural gems evoking its rich cultural heritage.

Tremont was once named University Heights in tribute to the hosting of the city’s first institution of higher learning – Cleveland University – which operated in the neighborhood from 1851 to 1853. The current street names “Professor”, “College”, “University” and “Literary” are remnants of this period.

The name of the neighborhood was changed later to Lincoln Heights to commemorate the area’s role as the site of two Union Army camps during the Civil War.

The small-town character fostered by the isolation created by the development of the interstates along with the unique mix of architectural styles and proximity to Downtown has spurred a renewed interest in urban living in the neighborhood.

In the 1970s and ’80s, artists began to settle in the area, drawn by the fantastic homes and churches, downtown and river views, cheap studio space – as well as the unique European feel of the neighborhood. 2. In-Person Consultation: We discuss your project in detail and complete our survey. It is the time when you can measure us up and we can do the same to you.

3. Project Review: You come into our Design Center showroom and together we will review your project sketches on a large-screen TV. This is when you get to evaluate and voice what you like and/or don’t like. We will review a copy of the written proposal and explain the scope of work to be done (demo, electrical, plumbing, drywall…).

4. Upon Decision To Move Forward: We will send you an invite to review all aspects of your renovation.   We will also review cabinetry brands and styles. Cabinets take 4-6 weeks to order and receive, so this selection is always completed and ordered first. Next, we set up appointments and dates to select any and all other vendor products such as plumbing, electrical solutions, counter surfaces, etc.

5. Coordinate Start Dates
